Gary Neville Makes Bold Manchester United Prediction For Ruben Amorim’s First Season
Manchester United have just 15 points from 11 games so far this term, and the 11 points from the opening 9 games, under Erik Ten Hag, represents our worst start to a season in the Premier League era.
Ten Hag’s replacement, Ruben Amorim, takes charge of his first game as United boss this weekend away to Ipswich, with the club sitting 13th in the Premier League table, and a mere 12 goals scored so far.
But perhaps there’s more to this story. Amorim’s early months in charge could offer United the chance to achieve more than just a respectable league finish or a late bid for European football.
Gary Neville has high hopes for Amorim and believes a Champions League push is well within reach. The ‘new manager bounce’ is already evident, with players reportedly responding positively to Amorim’s methods on the training ground.
“I think we’ll push for top-four this season,” Neville said on his Stick to Football podcast. “He seems to have the team going again. The players are saying the right things, aren’t they?”
“They’re not far off,” Neville added, and with the margins in this season’s league table, he might just be right.
With the Premier League standings tighter than a packed Old Trafford on derby day, the gap between United in 13th and Chelsea and Arsenal in third and fourth is surprisingly just four points. The table is ripe for a shake-up, and United have some favourable fixtures coming up.
Ipswich Town this weekend, and a home tie against Everton next weekend, provide a real opportunity for United to build momentum. By the time they face Arsenal on December 4th, they could well be breathing down Mikel Arteta’s neck in the race for the top four.
Let’s get them playing as a team with set out goals and work rate. Amorim has the qualities to bring us back together as the Utd we’ve grown to love
