Ruben Amorim Agrees With Roy Keane’s Blunt Observation Following Draw At Ipswich

Ruben Amorim agreed with Roy Keane’s blunt critique following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town, in what was Amorim’s Premier League debut as head coach.

Despite taking an early lead at Portman Road, United were left frustrated as they failed to capitalise on a promising start.

Amad Diallo’s piece of brilliance set up Marcus Rashford for a tidy finish to put United ahead inside 2 minutes.

Ipswich equalised before the break with a speculative long-range effort.

In the second half, United struggled to create clear-cut chances, and following the game, Roy Keane questioned United’s ‘football intelligence’ during Amorim’s Sky Sports interview.

“That is a concern,” Amorim admitted. “Because you can understand, you don’t need to coach them because at this level you have to keep the ball.

“Know the momentum, when to put the ball in front, and sometimes you feel that you can keep the ball and you put the ball in front.

“Then we are in the end of the game and you are rounding the box with two strikers. Josh [Zirkzee] has to understand that he has to go to the box to have the crosses.

“So we are doing some things not in the right moments, that is something we have to address.

“Everyone talks about the 3-4-3, that is not the concern. A system is a system but the understanding of the game we have to improve a lot in this area.”

Amorim’s Further Assessment Of The Performance:

Amorim later spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live, offering a candid assessment of the match.

“We started very well but didn’t maintain control. We gave the ball away too much and lacked long spells of possession,” he said.

“The second half we didn’t play very well but we controlled the game better. We created better than Ipswich but we have to find more time to work with the players because we can do much better.

“They are very good players, but we have to improve physically, technically and tactically, and we need time to do that.

“If you go to every top player who have had tough moments then it is normal [to forget how good they are]. When they feel fine with the new idea they will feel better for sure.”
