The 10 Best Man United Kits Of All Time (According To Fans)
As a club, Manchester United have had their fair share of disastrous kits (I immediately think of that infamous grey strip in 1996), but we’ve also had many beautiful, iconic kits over the years, all with their own stories and history.
It’s hard to narrow them down, but here’s the 10 greatest United shirts of all time, based on feedback from United fans.
10. 2007-2009 Home
Not only is this a nice-looking kit, but it’s also associated with one of our most successful seasons.
Worn during our 2007-08 Premier League and Champions League double-winning campaign, it brings back memories of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo causing havoc for United, and of course that brilliant, wet night in Moscow.
9. 2002-2004 Home
When I see this kit, one name springs to mind straight away: Ruud van Nistelrooy–I can see him with those long sleeves, scoring goals.
The red and black design looks nice, and the league title in the first year wearing it is a bonus.
8. 1975-1980 Away
The 1970s brought us many memorable kits, but this one, with its sleek white design and black stripes, is the pick of them.
The old school Amiral kit is a true classic that has a retro look, but it stands the test of time.
7. 1968 European Cup Final
A simple yet iconic kit. The all-blue design, adorned with the phoenix badge, symbolised United’s rise from the ashes, following the Munich disaster just 10 years earlier.
It’s also significant for being worn in our historic first European Cup Final victory, but aside from all that, it’s just a classy looking strip.
6. 1998-2000 Home
The first United kit to feature the new badge, which removed the words ‘football club’ and moved ‘United’ below ‘Manchester’. The change might be controversial to some, but the kit itself is a classic.
The zip collar design made it stand out, and winning the treble in its time certainly helps its status.
5. 1997-2000 European Home
What a shirt. United only wore this one in Europe, and in my head I can still see Solskjaer celebrating his Champions League and Treble winning goal at the Nou Camp wearing it.
The shielded badge looks so classy and iconic on this one.
4. 1993-1995 Away
This away kit just oozes class and style. The black and gold colours look so elegant and unique for a Manchester United shirt.
It’s even more memorable for Eric Cantona’s infamous Kung-Fu kick, but its design remains one of the greatest we’ve ever seen.
3. 1990-1992 Home
Adidas Originals and Sharp, there are fewer combinations that are better. The red shirt, with its striped, cuffed sleeves, is so clean and stylish.
This one brings back memories of greats like Bryan Robson, Mark Hughes and Ryan Giggs, in his early days.
2. 1992-1994 Third
A tribute to our roots. The green and gold third kit paid homage to United’s origins as Newton Heath.
This striking design became an instant classic, with the iconic laced collar, but it’s not just the great look, it symbolises the start of our Premier League dominance under Sir Alex Ferguson.
1. 1992-1994 Home
Here it is, the best Manchester United kit of all time. The 1992-1994 home shirt, with its Umbro design and Sharp sponsor, evokes the nostalgia of the 90s–It truly represents the golden era of United shirts.
Cantona’s popped collar obviously comes to mind, and our first league title trophy lift for 26 years, but overall it’s a beautiful kit.
